Our Mission

The Black German Cultural Society, NJ. (BGCSNJ) documents and promotes the activities of Black Germans and the Black presence in Germany as reflected in past and present times, particularly, but not limited to, the areas of the creative arts and humanities. As an academic organisation, we take an active role in researching and recording the history of Blacks in Germany. We are committed to strengthening relationships among all who identify as Black Germans and Black persons who have a connection to Germany. We also endeavour to promote the inclusion of Black German history and experience in the curriculum of both German and  Diaspora Studies, and encourage bilateral Student Exchange opportunities.

Goals and Objectives

To host an online community and public events that showcase the history, culture, and positive  images and achievements of Black Germans.

To develop a literary archive of Black German history and publications of and about Black Germans.

To develop cooperative partnerships with other academic, humanitarian, diplomatic, cultural and social organizations.

To encourage and promote scholarship as it pertains to Black German history and culture.

To encourage diversity in German Language learning and academic exchange programs by developing a closer relationship with Alle lernen Deutsche and other existing institutions and organizations.

 

Our Objectives

Our goal is to further develop and maintain international German-American relations by encouraging an ongoing relationship between persons of color of dual heritage (German & American) now living in the US and those in Germany. We believe that the strengthening of this relationship is consistent with the objectives of both the United States & German Governments.

We propose that establishing and maintaining an ongoing dialogue among these individuals will be beneficial in the following areas:

Our Opportunity

We believe that the time is now for these persons to actualize their dreams of pursuing wholeness as individuals by visiting these respective homelands, and creating productive and meaningful relationships with:

  • Scholars and Organizations in Germany and the US who can provide bilateral insight, assistance and information with regard to:
    • History
    • Language
    • Culture
    • Personal & Family records and documentation.
  • The respective counterparts of these similarly situated individuals in the visited country.
  • Extended family members if possible who may be remaining in the visited country.

Our People

Our Goal as an organization, is to educate: to inform about and strengthen relationships among in, from, or otherwise connected to Germany; regardless of their Diaspora roots or present country of residence. We adhere to the following non-discrimination policy:
